Creative Music Performance (CMP)

116 C West Main Street

Carrboro, NC

Students who participate will learn the fundamentals of playing and performing music in a group setting, recording in a studio, online marketing, and preparing for a release party. The program culminates in a concert at a local music venue, with local bands, and with the proceeds going to Table.

For our upcoming summer sessions, the camp will take place at Nightsound Studio (116 C West Main St., Carrboro, NC 27510). The camp will be held from 9 AM - 2 PM, Monday through Friday, with a performance on Saturday. The first session takes place from June 12th-16th, with the performance on June 17th taking place at The Station in Carrboro (201 East Main Street). The second session will be held from August 21st-25th, with the performance almost certainly taking place at Local 506 on August 27th (I'm awaiting final confirmation). We could not have asked for a more inspiring or thoughtful coach than Ian! His approach to teaching and guiding the students through their sessions was truly remarkable. We got to listen not only to the final recordings but also to the collaborative sessions themselves, hearing the students offer their ideas. Ian's helpful feedback was never heavy-handed; he let the music emerge and let the students go where their creativity would take them. The final performance was great. Ian set the mood for a really supportive and fun event, and the band sounded amazing! Four months later, they are still playing together and preparing for their next gig!

Our 9th Grade son took part in this week-long camp and had an excellent experience. He learned a great deal from Ian not only about playing and recording music, but about the music industry in general. CMP has left him more enthusiastic than ever about playing and recording. We would highly recommend CMP to others.
