GRNCs Rock and Roll Day Camp is a one-week music program for Triangle area girls, trans, and gender non-conforming kids ages 7-16. Campers are instructed in an instrument of their choice, form bands, and write original music with their peers. Between band practices, campers attend workshops such as songwriting, self defense, D.I.Y., zine making, deejaying, body confidence, and more! Throughout the week, campers are mentored in an empowering all-female, trans and gender non-conforming environment by seasoned musicians, educators, and activists. The week concludes with a huge concert showcasing the original music of each of the bands at a local venue. No musical background or instruments necessary to participate in GRNC Rock Camp! We offer full and partial scholarships for qualifying campers! Have a question about summer camp? Please check out our F.A.Q. Both of my girls ages 11 and 8 have attended this camp 3x and 2x respectively when it used to be held at Woods Charter School. It is a fun camp if you want your girl to try a non-traditional summer camp where she will trade in her swim suit for an instrument like guitar, bass, keyboard, drums or a mic. No experience in playing an instrument is necessary. This camp provides opportunity for girls to work together in a group to write and play a song in one week. I know my girls learned about the dynamics of working in a group. Also, the camp counselors, who were volunteers in their twenty-something, discussed about self -respect and love as well as accepting of others who are different. The best and sweetest part of this camp is when the campers get to perform at a local rock club at the end of camp on a Sat early evening!! These young girls were super adorable on stage! My girls enjoyed seeing their one-week work with their band mates at the show. The camp did end earlier than others so we had to pay extra for after care. This camp does not have its own facility. It was convenient for us when it used to be held at Woods. This camp is more expensive than the typical YMCA camps.
