Durant Road Musical Theatre Summer Camp

8471 Garvey Drive

Raleigh, NC

Debbie has toured with the internationally renowned song and dance company the Young Americans, and devoted much of her time and talent to promoting children's theater throughout the Los Angeles area, including Kids Love Music beginning in 1994. Some of Debbie's theatrical experiences include starring roles in "Annie", "Little Red Riding Hood", and "South Pacific" at the Glendale Centre Theatre, where she also choreographed the kid's show "Popsicle Palace". In addition, she starred as Princess Luna in the world's first bilingual fairy tale musical for the Sanrio Toy Company in Tokyo, Japan. Debbie greatly enjoys sharing her love for music with children across the nation and continues to do so here in Raleigh!

Our daughter has been coming to DRMT since 2012, and every experience she (and we!) have with DRMT is absolutely wonderful. She has been in Junior productions (70 min versions of the full Broadway show) Annie, Xanadu, the Lion King, James and the Giant Peach, High School Musical, Fiddler on the Roof, and Shrek The Musical. I love the fact that each camp puts on four shows, and every child has a primary role in two and an ensemble role in two. That way everyone learns the importance of being a strong ensemble (and there are no divas!).Owner and theater director Debbie Rollins is such a caring, nurturing mentor. I can already see that when our daughter is an adult and looks back on the major influences during her childhood and teen years, Debbie will be at the top of the list. Debbie treats all the kids like they are her own. "Character development" clearly has a double meaning for the Rollins' theater, and I so appreciate that.DRMT has also exposed our daughter (and others) to incredible opportunities through their annual participation in the Junior Theater Festival (an audition-based competition experience held in Atlanta and Sacramento). This will be the third year I tag along as a chaperone. I'm so impressed by our DRMT kids - they are known at the Festival for embodying that supportive, collaborative and nurturing approach Debbie instills in them. Our JTF kids are always the first to jump up and applaud the other theater groups' performances. What fabulous life skills DRMT is promoting!Of all the camps I have reviewed, I give this my highest recommendation.
